How to Reach Andaman by Air?

The nearest airport to Andaman is named after the freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, who was imprisoned in the Cellular Jail. Located in the capital city of Port Blair, the Veer Savarkar Airport is a civil enclave. Domestic flight services by Indigo Airlines, Spice Jet, Go Air, Vistara and Air India from the major Indian cities are operational here.

If you board a flight from Chennai or Kolkata, you are most likely to reach Andaman within 3 hours. Travelling by flight from Delhi usually takes up to 5 hours. How to Reach Andamanby Water?

You can also travel to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by sea. This is the cheapest way to travel to Andaman and Nicobar. Haddo Wharf is a major port located here. There are 3-4 sailings from Kolkata and Chennai every month. Ships from Visakhapatnam sail only once a month. The travel time is approximately 3-4 days. These passenger ships offer minimal food choices. 

Safety Measures:

Sea-sickness might cause trouble if you are travelling between May and October. Seashore Delight recommends you travel by ship only if you want to indulge in a unique journey amidst the waters.

Permits can also be acquired from Foreigner’s Registration Offices at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. Immigration authorities at the airports in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai offer these permits as well. Initially, the permit lasts for about a month. However, you can get it expanded by another 15 days.
